The Swede joined the Dragões from Vitória Guimarães in July after 5 seasons with Os Conquistadores. This classy Nike design had been worn in the 2000-01 season but by the time Porto's season had started in late July their new kit wasn't yet ready and so this design got one last run out in the Champions League Qualifier against Welsh minnows Barry Town. Porto ran out 8-0 winners at Estádio das Antas to kill off the tie and by the time the 2nd leg was being played they were in their new kits. Söderström made his debut in that 8-0 victory scoring the side's 4th goal as Deco bagged a hat-trick and Pena netted 4. The side wore a stripped back version of the kit with no reverse sponsor or Primeira League patch to conform to UEFA regulations and this shirt is believed to have been issued to or worn by Söderström in a pre-season friendly ahead of that match. He made 36 appearances in all competitions this year as the side finished 3rd in the top flight and reached the Champions League second Group stage. He stayed on the books at the side until 2004 but was loaned out for the rest of his time enjoying spells with Standard Liège, Braga and Estrela before joining Spanish outfit Córdoba on a permanent basis.
